Philippians 2:6-10, Matthew 20:20-23, 25-28, & Ephesians 1:19-22

Jesus has always been as God is.  But He did not hold to His rights as God.  He put aside everything that belonged to Him and made Himself the same as a servant who is owned by someone.  He became human by being born as a man.  After He became a man, He gave up His important place and obeyed by dying on a cross.  Because of this, God lifted Jesus high above everything else.  He gave Him a name that is greater than any other name.  So when the name of Jesus is spoken, everyone in heaven and on earth and under the earth will bow down before Him.

The mother of Zebedee's children (James & John) came to Jesus with her sons.  She got down on her knees before Jesus to ask something of Him.  He said to her, "What do you want?"  She said, "Say that my two sons may sit, one at Your right side and one at Your left side, when You are King."  Jesus said to her, "You do not know what you are asking.  Are you able to take the suffering that I am about to take?  (Are you able to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?)"  They said, "Yes, we are able."  He said to them, "You will suffer as I will suffer.  But the places at My right side and at My left side are not Mine to give.  Whoever My Father says will have those places."
Jesus called them to Him and said, "You know how the kings of the nations show their power to the people.  Important leaders use their power over the people.  It must not be that way with you.  But whoever wants to be great among you, let him care for you.  Whoever wants to be first among you, let him be your servant.  For the Son of Man came not to be cared for.  He came to care for others.  He came to give His life so that many could be bought by His blood and made free from the punishment of sin."

I pray that you will know how great His power is for those who have put their trust in Him.  It is the same power that raised Christ from the dead.  This same power put Christ at God's right side in heaven.  This place was given to Christ.  It is much greater than any king or leader can have.  No one else can have this place of honour and power.  No one in this world or in the world to come can have such honour and power.  God has put all things under Christ's power and has made Him to be the head leader over all things of the church.
